Icas (Preparation)

International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS Assessments) are online assessments administered by UNSW Global that aim to recognize and reward academic excellence.

ICAS recognizes and rewards student achievement in areas such as English, mathematics, science, spelling, writing and digital technology. The test suite is designed to test the skills you learned in school.

Assessment is based on the respective year’s curriculum. Students are asked to demonstrate a deeper, integrated, and thorough level of learning. A new ICAS assessment is produced each year for each subject at each grade level to ensure an engaging and beneficial experience for all students.

Each year students from over 20 countries attend her ICAS, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the United States. Each test takes place at the student’s school and is supervised by a teacher under normal testing conditions.

Students taking the ICAS test are ranked based on their annual percentile in each participating state (Australia) and country.

• The top 1% of students will be awarded a large prize
• The next 10% of her students won the award
• The next 25% of students earn credit
• All other students will receive a certificate of participation advantage

Taking the ICAS exam can be a difficult experience for many children. ICAS exams begin in her sophomore year. For many children of this age, this may be the first major test they undergo. Going into exams under the spell of terror can affect student performance and lead to unsatisfactory results. We work on specific areas of reading, spelling, grammar, verbal reasoning, numeracy and writing (arguing and storytelling). Students also learn to work under time pressure using a variety of time-saving and mental strategies.
